Admin¶
The Admin menu holds the device’s settings and its maintenance functions. Several of these change or erase your data and ask you to enter your two master-password words again before they act.
Info¶
Shows a summary of the device: how many entry slots are used and free (out of 500), the firmware version, the device’s serial number, and how many times it has been powered up.
The Info summary: slots used/free, firmware version, serial, power-ups (scroll right for more).¶
Keyboard mode¶
Chooses between Normal and Mac key handling, for when the connected computer is an Apple Mac. This is the same setting as Normal / Mac in the main-menu Typing passwords to the computer menu.
Keyboard map¶
Chooses the keyboard layout Seclave uses when typing into the computer. This is the same setting as Keyboard map in the main-menu Typing passwords to the computer menu; see that chapter for the list of layouts and why the layout must match the computer.
Slave security¶
Sets how much confirmation the device requires when a computer program looks up entries over the Usb slave connection: Ask all, Normal (the default) or Allow all. These levels are explained in Usb slave.
Long timeouts¶
Sets the extended automatic-shutdown timeouts used by Active use (Long timeout) mode. There are two values:
Connected timeout - used while the device is plugged into a computer. Choices range from 3 minutes up to 6 hours.
Unconnected timeout - used while the device is running on battery. Choices range from 1 minute up to 60 minutes.
These only take effect when Active use is switched on; the normal timeouts are described in Everyday basics.
Reset use counts¶
Clears the usage history that orders the Recent view, so that all entries start again from equal usage. Your entries themselves are not changed.
Warning
This erases the usage history that drives the Recent ordering. It cannot be undone. Your passwords are not affected.
Auth zones¶
Shows how many auth zones the device has left. An auth zone is one protected activation: whenever the device wipes itself after repeated wrong logins (see Activation and first use), it uses up one zone and can then be activated afresh on the next one. This screen only displays how many zones remain and changes nothing.
The remaining auth zones. This screen changes nothing.¶
Warning
When four logins fail in a row, the device protects itself by erasing all of its stored passwords along with the master key, and it uses up one auth zone. It can then be activated again as an empty device, but the erased passwords are only recoverable from a backup together with its backup key (see Backup and restore). Once the last auth zone is used up the device is permanently consumed: it can no longer be activated or opened and must be replaced. Enter your words carefully.
Erase storage¶
Deletes all entries and re-formats the device’s storage, leaving the device activated but empty. You are asked to confirm and then to log in again before it proceeds.
The Erase storage confirmation. No is the safe answer.¶
Warning
Erase storage permanently deletes every entry on the device. This cannot be undone. Make sure you have a current backup first (see Backup and restore).
Change login¶
Changes your master password to a new pair of words. You log in with your current words first, then the device shows and asks you to confirm a new pair, which you enter twice. Your stored entries are kept.
Warning
After changing the login you must remember the new words; the old words no longer open the device, and the words cannot be recovered if forgotten. Your backup key also changes when the login changes - record the new one (see Backup and restore).
Factory reset¶
Returns the device to its unactivated, empty state: it deletes all entries and clears the device’s security settings. You confirm and then log in again before it proceeds; afterwards the device powers off and must be activated again before it can be used.
Warning
Factory reset erases everything and returns the device to a blank, unactivated state. All entries are lost and cannot be recovered without a backup and its backup key. Only use this to hand the device on or to start completely fresh.
